Webb22 sep. 2016 · Port House is one of a string of projects designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid that are due to be completed this year. Antwerp has a rich cultural and architectural heritage. In the 16th century already, the city was noted for the wealth of its citizens (Antwerpia nummis). The houses of these wealthy merchants and manufacturers have been preserved throughout the city. However, fire has destroyed several old buildings, such as the house of the Hanseatic League on the northern quays, in 1891. During World War II, the city also suffered considerable damage from V-bombs.
