That allows you to put a wrench on the nut and it heats up the broken stud in its hole causing it to loosen. A wire feed welder is best for that. Check the block for cracks around the water jackets. On my Toyota truck,the head was milled such that the compression was 189 PSI,and blew the gasket,so a shim fixed it.
